Myth Busting!

CAN ANY TEA HELP DIGESTION

Both green tea and many herbal teas may help improve your digestion. I also recommend making a fresh ginger and lemon tea, I find ginger really helps when I feel sick. Also the whole process of slowing down and sipping tea can help calm us which helps with the digestion process

IS 5:2 A GOOD WAY TO MANAGE WEIGHT

This diet involves intermittent fasting– where you eat normally five days a week and drastically reduce your calories on the other two days. This diet has been found to significantly lower one’s risk of developing chronic diseases such as type 2 diabetes and may help lower the risk of certain obesity-related cancers, such as breast cancer. However, everyone is different, if you are considering it, you should first talk to your GP to see if it is suitable for you. Not everyone can safely fast like pregnant people. It is important to remember calories isn't equal to health and fasting can lead to malnourishment if not done right. I’d only advise following this diet if you chose eat a balanced eating plan devised by a nutritionist to avoid nutritional deficiencies, dehydration or over-eating on non-fast days. Make sure to ask yourself if this diet is sustainable in the long term for you.

IS OLIVE OIL AND LEMON ON A SALAD A HEALTHY DRESSING CHOICE

Yes very good try and use single origin extra virgin to get the maximum health benefits of reducing cardiovascular risk and lemon adds a great acidity and some vitamin C

IS IT MORE UNHEALTHY TO HAVE A SUGARY FIZZY DRINK OR A GLASS OF WINE

Soft drinks have no nutritional value, they are bad for the teeth, and lead to a sharp rise in blood glucose levels. Both are very different beverages – yet both contains calories whether it’s from alcohol or sugar. However, wine, particularly red, contains minimal sugars and contains an antioxidant called resveratrol which is protective for your cardiovascular system. So I would say wine is better!

ARE OLIVES HEALTHY  OR NOT?

Yes olives are very high in vitamin E and other powerful antioxidants. They are a high part of the Mediterranean diet which has got extensive research on the health benefits of improving heart health. The healthy fats in olives are extracted to produce extra virgin olive oil, also one of the key components of the incredibly healthy Mediterranean diet.

IS DAIRY BAD FOR YOUR BONES

No it is so good, dairy is one of the most nutrient dense products you can eat and dairy is the best sources of calcium, the main mineral in bones.

Despite all this, some believe that its high protein content can cause osteoporosis. Due to the fact that when protein is digested, it increases the acidity of the blood. The body then pulls calcium from the blood to neutralize the acid.

This is the theoretical basis for the acid alkaline diet, which is based on choosing foods that have a net alkaline effect and avoiding foods that are "acid forming."

However, there really isn't much scientific evidence for this theory.

If anything, the high protein content of dairy is a good thing. Studies show that eating more protein leads to improved bone health.

Not only is dairy rich in protein and calcium, it’s also loaded with phosphorus and iodine. Whole milk from grass-fed cows also contains vitamin K2.

Protein, phosphorus and vitamin K2 are all very important for bone health. I personally drink a lot of local raw milk .

CAN SOYA MILK  UNBALANCE YOUR HORMONES

One common misconception surrounding soya is that it causes hormonal imbalances. But these myths typically come from studies using animals who have been given extremely high quanities of soya, more than the average human would ever eat! Also animals metabolise soya very differently to humans and so the two cannot be compared. Regular and moderate consumption of soya products could also reduce cholesterol levels as proven in many studies. Soya drink as a milk alternative is undoubtedly the best dairy-free option if you are vegan, as it has much higher protein levels than alternatives like nut or rice drinks marketed as ‘milk’ alternatives. for example almond milk only contains 2% almonds!

HOW MUCH PROTEIN DO YOU REALLY NEED? 0.75g/kg of body weight, having 2 eggs can give 12 g of protein and it also contains B12.  Beans and lentils are also good giving 20g protein per 100g, nuts and seeds also contain the same amount. Chickpeas, tempeh,  and nut butter 30g/100g I also recommended.
